Isabel could feel her world collapsing around her, and the felt no-one cared. She loved her sister Katy, but why did she when she kept betraying her? Read on to find out more.

Obsession

Isabel felt humiliated and betrayed after Andy texted her to say he had been held up in traffic. That in itself wasn't a problem. They had been together for 3 years, as far as she was concerned, 3 wonderful years, and she felt she loved the very bones of him. Her sister Katy had warned her that she was too intense about him, too “ In his face” she had called it.

But how could Isabel explain these feelings she had inside her, the fear she had of losing the most desirable boy friend ever. He was handsome, talented and popular, those deep brown eyes sparkled with life and when she was with him she felt so proud that he was her man. He looked like a film star, and she was so aware that she was just like an ordinary girl next door type. Katy had inherited their mother's elfin Audrey Hepburn type looks and winsome little girl personality, whereas Isabel's hair could only be termed as mousy, her build was more stocky after their dad, and her face was just ordinary.

What ever did he see in her? She ignored the little voice inside her suggesting that it might be Daddy's money. It was true that Andy was looking for work, but when she first met him he had been working in a garage, it wasn't his fault, that they had closed, and he hadn't been able to get back into work. She was so besotted with him that even if it was because she came from a rich family, she didn't want to know, she didn't care, just as long as she didn't lose Andy to anyone else.

She had kept Andy to herself

She hadn't taken Andy home for ages, or let Katy meet him. There was that fear he might prefer Katy to her, after all when they were young, Katy was the one who everyone liked. And when she had her first boyfriend at 16, at the time he had been her world, her first love, Katy had stolen him from right under her nose. Some sister!

They had both denied it of course, said they were only friends, nothing more, but she knew, she saw the way Dean looked at Katy, so in a fit of pique, she decided he had to go. She pretended to like his friend Ray for a while, just to save her face, and it was just as well, because Katy had kept her friendship with Dean going for a long time, until he moved away, and even now they were still in contact.

But Dean and Ray had no impact on on her since Andy had come into her life, he was the centre of her life, and it was hard to control the urge to know his every waking move when he wasn't with her, hard to stop herself from texting him every 5 minutes, in fact hard to be away from him. She wished she hadn't tried to explain to Katy about it, she hadn't understood.

She had tried to believe he was held up, but when she saw him in the cafe talking to her sister, she felt that red mist engulf her, jealousy and hatred coursed through her body, making her feel as if she could strangle them both for betraying her.

All thoughts of dignity deserted her, as she banged open the door in rage, a voice , which seemed to be coming from deep inside her screamed out every obscenity she could think of, as she lurched towards them.

Katy knew things were not right

Katy was really worried about her sister Isabel. They were closer than most sisters since their mum had died so tragically from cancer nearly 10 years ago. Isabel had only been eight, and at eleven, Katy had felt the responsibility of being the elder sister who needed to take care of her shy and not very confident sibling.

Vivacious outgoing Katy had been close to her Dad, whereas Mum had been aware that Isabel needed that extra cuddle of reassurance, and she had been there for her ever since she was a little girl, but then suddenly she was gone. Dad had thought she would beat that evil cancer, and she had fought valiantly, but in the end, her poor weak body had to give up the fight, and she had died peacefully one night.

Dad had just plunged himself into his work to try and cope with his grief, and Katy had concentrated on her sister Isabel, knowing just how devastated she must be to lose the woman they had both looked up to and admired, and loved so deeply, ever since they could ever remember.

But instead of coming to terms with her mother's death, it seemed that Isabel had turned into a different person. From the age of 16, she had to have a boyfriend in her life. Nothing wrong with that, but her mistrust and obsessive behavour in an effort to keep their affection, had in fact driven them away.

Katy had tried to help

Dean had told Katy that Isabel was far too possessive, and he was off, so she had explained about her mother's death, and how it had affected Isabel, and initially Dean had felt sorry for Isabel, and tried to overlook her obsessive ways, but in the end, it had been too much. He was only 16 himself, and didn't want to take life too seriously, so he had found another girl who was a lot of fun to be with. Katy had understood, and they had remained friends, but Isabel had said she felt betrayed, so he got himself as far away from her and the drama that always seemed to surround her, as he could.

Poor Isabel, she didn't seem to want to believe Katy that they were only friends, but Katy figured if it made Isabel find it easier to get over him her shoulders were broad, so she could take it.

But now it was happening all over again with Andy, and Katy wasn't sure Andy was the right person for her vulnerable sister. After 3 years together, and not much sign of him getting a job, she was worried that the fact they were a wealthy family was the attraction. Especially as Andy had made a pass at her behind Isabel's back.

She had told him his fortune for that, and since then , the worry that he was using Isabel, and if he asked her to marry him, there was no way she would refuse, continued to haunt her. It wasn't as if Isabel was truly happy with him, she was forever checking up on him and texting him, and couldn't bear to spend any time away from him.

Katy had to do something about it, so she asked him to meet her, and she made sure it was in a place that Isabel would see them. It was whilst she was telling him that her sister needed help because she was still suffering from the unresolved grief after her mother's death, that she saw a look of boredom cross his handsome, but rather shallow face. This man was definitely not right for Isabel.

He didn't need to say any more, Isabel saw what she thought was a very cosy little meeting, and blasted her way in all guns blazing. Andy, true to form, took off, not only had he been rumbled by her sister, he didn't want this unbalanced woman in his life any more. The pretence of loving her so he could have a comfortable future no longer appealed.

Katy took the full force of her sister's wrath, then afterwards when she collapsed in tears saying, " How could you do this to me again." she held Isabel's shaking body against her, and stroked her hair. At that moment she mad a decision, which she knew was the right one.

With Dad's support, they would get Isabel the professional help she needed. It was way overdue. When Isabel was better, she would explain everything to her that she couldn't see at the moment, but right now, there were professional people who could help her. Death affects people in different ways, and until Isabel got that help, she couldn't move on. She loved her sister so much, they only had each other now. She felt a feeling of peace sweep over her, because she had made her decision. Mum was up there nodding her head with approval, she knew it, Together they would help Isabel to get well.

This is excellent Carol. I had a feeling the sister was testing Andy's true intentions , but that only made me read on to happily find out it was true . In the long run it saved Isabel a great deal more heartache. Well done my dear friend.
God bless you

Agree with Delicia, this made a powerful read Carol. Grief can be hard to come to terms with and can have so many different affects on them which they may carry for years..Great article \0/x
