I’m very satisfied with the performance of Macleans white & shine toothpaste and I would highly recommend it. However people are from high Sodium Fluoride area or sensitive with Sodium Fluoride may need to be more careful.

Review of Macleans White & Shine Toothpaste: a Great Toothpaste from Australia

Macleans is an Australian brand and part of the wider GlaxoSmithKline group of companies. The first tube of Macleans was produced in the mid-1950s. Now Macleans covers a wide range of toothpastes and toothbrushes. The one I’m writing about is one of Macleans whitening products, to give the full name, Macleans white & shine toothpaste.

The packaging and the toothpaste:

Macleans White & Shine toothpaste comes in a recycled cardboard box, which is covered with Macleans white logo and a navy blue circle. There is a picture of shining crystal diamond above ‘white & shine’ words which are noticeable on two faces of the box. One of the other two faces is used to display ingredients clue and directions for use; another one is used to celebrate its ‘dancing on Ice’ sponsorship.

The blue tube is collapsible and made of plastic and foil that is used by most toothpaste at the moment. The top of the tube is a hard plastic white lid that is used to unveil a small hole from which the toothpaste comes out. The toothpaste is off white liquid with white crystal strips inside. There are some information about using and ingredients on every face of the tube too.

Main Ingredients:

Macleans white & shine toothpaste is formulated with Sodium Fluoride to 0.243% w/w (1100 parts per million of fluoride). Generally the fluoride content in fluoride toothpaste is 0.22%.

The main ingredients are Sorbitol, Aqua, Silica, Hydrated silica, PEG-8, Sodium Lauryl Surfate, Aroma, Xanthan Gum, Disodium Phosphate, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Fluoride, Sodium Sulfite and Limonene, etc.

Hydrated silica is a form of silicon dioxide. It can be used in gel toothpastes and in the clear parts of striped toothpaste; PEG-8 is the approximate molecular weight of the glycol polymer. It can be used in toothpaste to bind water and to prevent bacteria from breaking down pyrophosphates; The silver crystal strips use extra whitening ingredients to polish teeth for whiter and shiner as well to ensure gums are healthy.
Macleans white & shine toothpaste comes in a similar smell of lemon. For children younger than 7 years of age it’s not suitable. For adults it can be used twice daily.

Price and Availability:

In the UK you can buy Macleans white & shine toothpaste from many outlets including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Boots, Amazon just to name a few. The prices will vary depending on where you purchase. As a guide the current price at Sainsbury’s is £2.09 for 100ml.

My opinion:

I bought a Macleans white & shine toothpaste by accident as my favourite Colgate Max White with White Micro-Crystals was out of stock at my local Sainsbury’s. However having tried this toothpaste for a week or two I have been impressed.

The colour of this toothpaste looks very clear and nice. The texture of this toothpaste is very smooth. When using it I can feel a little lemon taste that doesn’t make me uncomfortable.

Last but not least Macleans white & shine toothpaste performs effectively. It contains a high-cleaning silica ingredient that can polish for whiter and shiner teeth with enamel protection. I can see my teeth are very clean and I can feel my breath fresher.

As we known, for health reason we should not stick on particular toothpaste and better to change them every three months. I’m glad I found Macleans white & shine toothpaste to be a replacement of Colgate Max White with White Micro-Crystals.

All in all I’m very satisfied with the performance of Macleans white & shine toothpaste and I would highly recommend it. However as I mentioned earlier the Sodium Fluoride in this toothpaste is a little higher than most fluoride toothpastes, people are from high Sodium Fluoride area or sensitive with Sodium Fluoride may need to be more careful.

Extra information:

Apart from Macleans white & shine toothpaste Macleans also produces iso-active Whitening, Advanced enamel protection, Macleans for kids, just to name a few. For more Macleans toothpaste products please visit Macleans official website.

To maintain healthy teeth toothpaste plays an important role. However a toothbrush is also a key. I’m pleased to introduce you to an electrical toothbrush that can brush your teeth even more effectively. For more details please visit my article: Braun gives me professional treatment every day.
