Music always makes me feel better. I love to listen to all kinds of music genre.

Rock Out Your Morning

Once upon a time Californians experienced gray skies from early morning until late in the afternoon in June each year. We all called it June Gloom. A few years ago, however, the weathermen had to coin a new term, May Gray. Now we often start our days with gray skies for two months of the year. The rest of the year, often even in winter, we wake up to sunny skies. It is why so few of us suffer much from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

So how do I shake the mild depression that funky gray skies bring about? For a while I didn’t. Now, however, I have found a way. I have DirecTV in my house. I only have the basic plan, so I don’t get all the extras (except on my program guide, which is annoying as all get out). I do, however, receive several music stations, commercial free. Cool.

I went through them until I found two that I like. One is fifties malt shop oldies. The other is sixties rock and roll. I like them both, but the one that seems to work best for mood changing in the morning is the sixties music. It is always upbeat and usually has a dance rhythm to it. It is hard to stay down when the music is so up.

Perhaps the beat and themes of the music are not the only reasons the songs makes me feel better. I was in junior and senior high school and college in the sixties. These were, for the most part, very happy times for me. I know some people hated high school, but for me it was a safe haven from criticism and being ignored. Most of my classmates were nice to me, and the teachers were always encouraging.

If you have trouble getting out of a morning funk, try finding music that picks you up. Perhaps think back to a happy time and dig up some tunes of that era. Works for me!

What kind of music makes you smile?

Nice tip Tanzkie. It is not easy to keep our spirits up when we hear news that highlights and even encourages mindless violence. We can find love and compassion through music that soothes - siva
