Snakes are widely feared as deadly, poisonous creatures. Though most snakes are not poisonous. But still cause harm due to allergic reactions. However, the exceptions, poisonous snake's bite are lethal. Here are a few steps you may follow till the help arrives, if you are caught in such a situation or if you find such a situation in front of you.

Calm

1) Remain calm
2) Or try to keep the victim calm, as most people die due to fear of snake, then the poison.
The intensity of fear and shock is so strong that it causes victim's heart failure leading to death.

So, although difficult, you have to keep the victim calm.

Picture of snake

=> If possible for you, take the picture of the snake that has bitten the victim.
=> This picture would help the hospital staff to identify the snake and fasten up the treatment decision.
=> So better chances of fast recovery.

Position Of Bitten Site

Adjust the victim's body in such a way that the site where he was bitten, be at the level lower than the heart.
This is to be done in order to delay blood flow to the bitten area, thus preventing the spread of poison.
Ask the victim to move less.
Movement can cause the venom to move more quickly through the body.

Remove Accessories

Remove the clothing or jewellery from the site of bitten area.
It is likely that the affected area may swell due to poison.

Most importantly, see that person is breathing. There is no blockage of airway.

Use Something To Tighten The Bitten Area

Usually, This is not recommended.
But you may swirl a cloth by the affected site. But this should not be tight enough that it leads to complete blockage of blood flow to the area. As complete blood flow blockage results in tissue death.

Dont's

1) Never cut the affected area.
2) Never try to suck out venom. You may accidentally poison yourself in doing so.
3) Do not use ice on the bitten site.
4) Don't try to wash the wound as it would increase infection chances.
