Essential oil bathing is a wonderful way of de-stressing at the end of a long hard day. It is a particularly effective way to aid a natural, restful sleep as well as having benefits for the skin too.

Scented bathing for a good nights sleep

Even the simplest bathroom can be transformed into a relaxing sanctuary with the natural power of essential oils. And the beauty of it is you don't have to be a expert in aromatherapy to gain the benefits of a scented bath. Although certain oils have a more relaxing and even a sedative effect I feel it's best to let your nose do the choosing and select an oil that appeals to your personal senses as this will have a profound effect on your state of mind. Most chemists and health shops stock a variety of essential oils so take some time and choose a scent that you like.

Bath blends:
To aid sleep and de-stress:
You may like to try 4 drops of lavender and 2 drops of neroli. Lavender has a wonderful fruity, floral scent with a woody undertone and is one of the most calming oils making it excellent for sleep problems such as insomnia. Neroli has a fresh, citrusy, floral aroma and works well as a de-stressor.

You may like to try 4 drops of chamomile and 2 drops of palmarosa. Chamomile has a sweet, fruity fragrance and amazing soothing properties making it a great oil to aid sleep. Combine with palmarosa, a sweet rosy oil that is excellent for relieving low moods and exhaustion.

You may like to try 4 drops of mandarin and 2 drops of rose. Mandarin has a beautiful sweet, citrus freshness with super de-stressing qualities and blends well with rose, a honey sweet floral oil that is excellent at reducing anxiety and mental tension.

Essential bathing tips:
1.Run the bath before you add the oils.
2. Add your selected oils to the surface and swish the water.
3. 4 to 6 drops of oil is enough.
4. Allow yourself time to relax and breath in the aroma.
5. Always be careful not to slip when getting in and out of the bath.
6. Rinse the bath after use to prevent the oil leaving a residue.
