Lately I have been hearing of more and more people coming down with symptoms of electromagnetic sensitivity. And now I am experiencing it myself. I have had to shut off the wireless modem and re-connect to cable internet. The research I have done for myself led to this article written in the hope of informing others.

Diagnosis

It is extremely hard to get any diagnosis from the medical profession because the symptoms mimic so many other conditions and EMF sensitivity is not considered a valid malady yet. Like chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia used to be dismissed as a mental problem, EMF sensitivity is thought to be all in the head. But the numbers are growing and are beginning to have a voice.

To this date there is no treatment except avoidance, which is almost impossible given that we live in a haze of electromagnetic radiation. One can only try to limit exposure.

Symptoms

The symptoms range from mild to severe. Similar to an allergic reaction, each individual reacts differently on exposure. It is suspected that about 5% of a population is affected, but I suspect that the numbers are much higher, since most people do not recognize EMF as being a factor in their discomfort.

Some common symptoms are:

1. ringing in the ears
2. rash-usually on the face
3. depression
4. inability to concentrate
5.dizziness
6. fatique
8. feeling of pressure in the head
9. sinus problems
10. swollen eyelids
11. headache

Some Background

In this video Jerry Flynn, a retired military expert in radio wave warfare traces the history of the experimental use of electromagnetic technology from the 1950's to the present day. According to him the military and government of Canada was well aware of the dangers to health, but allowed commercial development anyway.

He tells a true story about how the Russians were bombarding the American embassy with electromagnetic frequencies during the cold war. The American government knew about it but decided to let it happen and watch. During what was to be a ten year experiment, 3 ambassadors died of cancer, 16 women staff members contracted breast cancer, some of whom died, and all suffered illnesses of some kind. In his talk, Jerry addresses issues with smart meters, cell phones and towers , cordless phones etc.

Some of the points Jerry Makes:

1. The limits for EMF exposure are much higher in Canada than in European countries
2. Canada's exposure limits are: 1000uW/cm2
3. Toronto board of health recommended limits be 100X lower in 1999
4. The Bio Initiative Report of 2007 recommended a10,000X lower limit

Some Facts

1.Because of protest by the citizens of BC, the installation of smart meters has been halted temporarily.
BC Hydro says they want time to educate the population on their safety and efficiency

2.It is legal to erect cell phone towers on low rise buildings thus causing the population to be directly bombarded by EMFs.

3.Brain scans have revealed changes in brain activity when using a cell phone.

4.Various modes of protection are offered on line from gem stones to metallic pendants to space blankets and mesh screens and electromagnetic frequency detectors. Some say they work and some say no. Time will tell

Recently, In India and especially in the national capital region of Delhi, we had cases of electro magnetic radiation causing dizziness, headache, even some cancer cases. The main culprit are cellphone towers. Government bodies and Indian telecom regulatory bodies have taken notice, but any concrete action is yet to be taken due to adverse position take by a few in the scientific community.

However, I just checked some good news- http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2012-07-18/news/32730933_1_radiation-exposure-mobile-towers-emf
