Would you like to lose weight and/or detoxify your body? This is a simple seven day detox diet. I have made the food list simple so everyone can find the things on the list, also I have tried to keep in mind costs, as most things here are reasonably priced. Please note I am not a doctor nor nutritionist.

Your Shopping List

Before you get started make sure you have in your home the following items:

Rice (or quinoa if preferred)
Potatoes
Oatmeal (plain, not flavored)
Bananas
Vegetables (best ones are broccoli, cauliflower, Swiss chard, spinach, as well as peas, carrots, and else whatever you like)
Beans (technically a legume not a vegetable but include where vegetables are allowed)
Fruits and Berries (blueberries, apples, pears)
Vegetable Soup (canned, packaged, or homemade)
Juices

Ideally buy organic, (or use produce from your garden) but if not be sure to wash all fruits and vegetables well.

Other foods may be purchased later in the week and are not needed on the first 4 days. Do read ahead to decide if you need any spices or condiments.

At any time feel free to snack on the fruits and vegetables. Drink lots of water!

Note that drinking tea is better than coffee, but neither is best, ideally phase these out prior to starting a detox because or at least cut back before starting the detox (sudden elimination of either can cause withdraw symptoms). If you continue with these through the week, take them black - no sugar or whitener.

Soda pops, chocolate, candy, and so forth will not be allowed for the week.

Day One, Bye Bye Dairy

Dairy foods are additive and dairy products contribute to a build up of mucous in the nose. Additionally in countries where growth hormones are given to dairy cattle, the hormones are also in the dairy products. As such one goal is to greatly reduce the amount of dairy consumed. Note you can get calcium from other foods and vegetables, and can get Vitamin D in drops or from the sun itself. If you absolutely feel you need a milk product get almond milk for this week.

Breakfast will be oatmeal, cooked with water, do not add milk. You may add honey, cinnamon, or berries if you wish. You can have a fruit as well if you wish, and 1 cup of coffee or tea to drink, no sugar, no whitener.

Lunch will be vegetable soup. If you normally like having bread with your soup go ahead. Have a banana.

Dinner will be whatever you want, just make sure it does not contain any dairy products (including cheese).

Day Two, Bread is Out, Still No Dairy

For day two, we eliminate a comfort food, bread (including pasta), and continue without dairy.

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again. Have a banana with breakfast (or save it for lunch).

Lunch will be whatever you want (no bread or dairy though). For example it could be soup again, a salad, or omelet.

Dinner will be meat of your choice and vegetables and rice or potatoes (no pasta). A stir fry served over rice is good here.

Day Three, Still No Dairy, or Bread, Switch it Up

For day two, we eliminate a comfort food, bread (including pasta), and continue without dairy.

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again. Have a banana with breakfast (or save it for later in the day).

Lunch will be your larger meal today, meat of your choice and vegetables and rice or potatoes (no pasta).

Dinner will be the soup or salad, have the banana with your dinner.

Don't forget to drink lots of water!

Day Four, No Bread, No Meat, But A Touch of Dairy

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again. Banana optional!

Lunch will be anything without meat, or eggs, so a vegetable soup or salad again. However today may (optional) also have 1/2 cup of yogurt to add the probitotics back to your system.

Dinner will be just vegetables and rice or potatoes (believe it or not but a person can live a long time on a diet that is mostly rice or potatoes).

Day Five, Repeat but No Yogurt

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again.

Lunch will be anything without meat, or eggs, so a vegetable soup or salad again. No Yogurt, have a banana instead.

Dinner will be just vegetables and rice or potatoes A nice vegetarian chili is an option here as well, lots of beans, tomatoes, diced carrots, and so forth.

Day Six, Almost Done!

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again.

Lunch will be anything without meat, or eggs, so a vegetable soup or salad again. Again you may also have 1/2 cup of yogurt to add the probitotics back to your system (optional).

Dinner will be just vegetables and rice or potatoes

Day Seven, Repeat

Breakfast will be the oatmeal again.

Lunch will be anything without meat, or eggs, so a vegetable soup or salad again. Have a banana.

Dinner will be just vegetables and rice or potatoes (believe it or not but a person can live a long time on a diet that is mostly rice or potatoes).

About the Author

For the past 5 years I have had nothing but plain oatmeal for breakfast. I only add water to it. I also have one cup of tea. For me I noticed a huge difference in energy for the day as previously I had been eating prepared (boxed) breakfast cereals with milk.

Never skip a meal when on this, or any diet, if you do not have time to eat at least have a banana. If you skip a meal your body kicks into starvation mode and you actually have a harder time losing weight if that is your goal.

When you go back to your regular diet after this week, remember to keep meat portions small, 4 oz per day is all you need and it can be good to have some meatless days per week. Also keep your dairy consumption low.

Brenda, thank you so much for the guidelines. I think you are beautiful and obviously this detox has worked for you! I took a lot of health classes a few years ago and one of the things that was said was no dairy. That's when I gave up milk, cheese, eggs and butter along with ice cream. I stay away from dairy.
