Walk Off Those Festive Calories

The festive season is over and many of us are regretting that decision to stop worrying about calories and simply enjoy the season. Isn't it funny how the weight goes on much more quickly than it comes off. There's only one thing for it if you want to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume.
Believe me, walking is one of the easiest ways to do that. It's one of the easiest and most economical fitness activities you can participate in and, better still, you can start today.

All You Need to Start Walking

There are four basic things you need to get started on a walking programme. The first of these is a pair of well fitting, comfortable shoes. They don't have to be expensive, but the more supportive of your feet they are the better.
Loose comfortable clothing means you can walk freely. Don't worry about what you look like, no one else is looking at you. Most people have suitable casual clothing in their wardrobe that is ideal for walking in.
A positive attitude is a must for your success in walking. Tell yourself you're going to become a fitter and more healthy person by walking on a regular basis. Believe in your ability to do so and the walk will seem much easier.
Finally, the fourth essential thing needed is time, just a little at first, but a regular time slot set aside. You may start with as little as ten minutes and that's not hard to squeeze into you day. Time walking can be increased as you gain confidence and start seeing the benefits of regular exercise.

One Step at a Time

Getting started is often the hardest part. It's as easy as putting one foot in front of the other and taking one step at a time. Once you get used to the idea and into a rhythm you'll surprise yourself by the distance you're soon covering.
There's no need to join a gym or spend lots of money on walking. Just put on your shoes and walk out of your building, or up your driveway and see where it takes you. Soon you'll be enjoying the benefits of improved fitness and health that regular walking rewards you with.

I walk all day when I am at work. I work in a grocery store. At home when the weather is good I like to go for a walk to the lake.
