Strong bones is essential for good posture and physical appearance.

Magnificent Structure

Suppose you are an architectural engineer and your assignment is to build a movable framework that is as strong as iron but fifteen times lighter. It has to last a century and be resistant to water. The framework also has to move freely and repair itself in case of a break. This structure should not wear out with use but should actually strengthen with use.

What an assignment! Impossible, you say?Yet, your bones and muscles are such a system. Bones provide a strong framework capable of repairing itself. Exercising bones and muscles actually strengthen them. No engineer can build a machine to duplicate the intricate structure and function of your bones and muscles.

Good Posture

Good posture means that the various parts of your body are in balance with one another. The person with good posture stands straight, and have a strong abdominal muscles that help keep the posture aligned. Weak abdominal muscles cause an exaggerated curve in lower back. Check your own posture in the mirror. Always remember to walk tall and sit tall.

Good sitting posture

In good sitting posture, the hips and back of the thighs support the weight. The feet should be flat on the floor. If the legs are crossed, they should be crossed at the ankles. Spreading the knees tends to let the body slump. the hips should be well back in the chair. The back of the chair is designed to give support to the lower part of the back.

Ideal standing posture

Stand with your back to a wall, with every part of your upper body against it. You should not be able to get your fingers in back of your lower spine. To do this you must rotate your pelvis,which is accomplished by tightening your abdominal muscles.

Strengthening your Abdominal Muscles

Here are two simple exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles;

1. Lie on your back. With your knees bend and your hands clasped behind your head, curl up until half of your back is off the floor. hold this position then curl back down. 10 curls may do for the first set, do it in 3 sets and increase gradually as you may.

2. Tighten your abdominal muscles as though you were about to receive a blow there. Hold them tight for 30 seconds then relax. You can do this exercise several times during the day, for example, while sitting and watching television.

Good posture is important, not only because of appearance. poor posture can cause backaches, poor circulation, and cramping of internal organs. Weak, inflexible muscles are the most common cause of poor posture. Doing exercises to increase strength, tone, and flexibility of your muscles is the best way to improve your posture.
