Take off Your Heel Spur!

A heel spur is a disease that may sound innocent but brings much discomfort and worsens the quality of life. An acute heel pain does not let you walk, work and do stuff properly. What is heel spur and why does it develop?
A pathological state called a heel spur is an inflammation in the plantar fascia. The main cause of its appearance is the wrong distribution of weight over the foot. In many cases, people with flat feet suffer from this disease.
What happens when the weight distributes wrong over the foot? The tendons deform and the places of their attachment to the bone are getting inflamed. A healthy human body is more capable to stand against this process but when the immunity is low, the inflammatory process is much more likely to occur.
Who is in this risk group besides flat-footed patients? These are people, who suffer from obesity, spinal or limb diseases, blood circulation dysfunctions or periosteal infections. Women who are fond of wearing high heels all the time are also a risk group. Their feet undergo constant overwhelming and are in danger of deformation.
Does heel spur require professional treatment? Yes, it definitely does. The neglected disease may lead to disability of moving without crutches. It requires a complex approach because it always has pathological causative issues.
You can find lots of information about the domestic treatment of heel spur, but don’t overestimate them. They may ease your pain for a while, but they will not stop the disease from progressing and will not remove the main reason why it has occurred.
In most of the cases, it is possible to cope with the disease without surgery. It is not the size of the bone outgrowth matters but the degree of the inflammation. Among the conservative treatment methods, the most helpful are physical therapy, orthopedic devices, massage and the special exercises.
When the disease has been neglected for a long time and has already developed, a surgery can be the only way out. This is why being attentive to your health and taking timely care about it will make the treatment and rehabilitation easier, cheaper and faster.
