Avocados are grown in tropical climates around the world. They originated in Mexico. In South America they are known as” the apple of the winter.”

The Health Benefits of The Avocado

The avocado is also known as the butter pear or alligator pear. It is a native to South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The avocado is a large berry that contains a large seed. They grow on trees and their flowers are greenish-yellow. Mexico produces over one million tons of avocados a year. One tree can produce over 120 avocados a year. The trees are venerable to diseases that can affect all parts of the avocado plant. The diseases are bacterial, viral, or fungal.

In the United States, the avocado is mostly grown in California. Fall-brook, California is known as the ”Avocado Capital of the World.” The avocado is produced worldwide. Some countries that are major producers of the avocado are Ethiopia, China, Peru, Dominican Republic, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, United States, Indonesia, and Mexico. The most common species of avocado is called the “Haas.” This type has a rich nutty flavor and the skin ripens to a black color. Today, avocados grown in Mexico are sold in all fifty states. The state of California produces 90% of the avocados grown in the United States.

The avocado is known to have many health benefits. They are known to promote healthy skin and hair. The avocado works best when eaten, but some people prefer facial masks. A seven-day diet rich in avocados helps decrease cholesterol levels in people with high cholesterol. Avocados are also known to have natural antibacterial properties. They are very high in nutritional values and contain many vitamins and minerals . Some vitamins and minerals the avocado contains are zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, calcium, vitamins C, B9, B6, B5, B3, B2, B1, protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. The avocado has a high fat content. Avocados contain more potassium than bananas, about 60% more.



The avocado has a smooth, creamy texture. It is popular in vegetarian dishes. Because of it’s high fat content it is an excellent substitute for meats. The popular Mexican dip called guacamole contains avocados. Avocados are also added to chicken dishes, salads, and are eaten fresh with a dash of salt and pepper. In some parts of the world they are often added to milk-shakes, ice cream, and other desserts.

A lot of avocados are grown in Nigeria. We use it to eat rice and believe it is an aphrodisiac when taken over a period. The seed is dried and blended into powder and taken like a beverage with hot water. We believe that is very good for the heart and can reduce high blood pressure.
