What does it mean to glorify god? Here are a few thoughts.

The poverty of opulence

A wail pierced the intense air of expectation,
A smile of utter exhaustion upon the face of the mother,
A sense of relief, yet shadowed with hopelessness, for the father,
A cow shed with a few earthen pots, and the stale smell of hay,
Thus was the newborn welcomed.
The mother, a pure soul, poor of possession, yet rich of heart,
Her love moved many a heart and many a hand,
The hands that then shaped a humble cradle for the humble dwelling,
The lord smiled inside the newborn, and
He rejoiced in the unconditional love sprouted by unconditional love.

A wail pierced the intense air of expectation,
In the most guarded, most luxurious royal chamber,
While yet the kingdom suffered from drought and famine,
The newborn was bathed in the most exquisite of scented baths,
Draped in the choicest of silks, and
Proudly placed in the grandest of all cradles,
One that put even an emperor's throne to shame,
Not a gem, not an ounce of gold, not the rarest of crystals, not the most wondrous of corals, was spared for its creation,
Trumpets and drums conveyed an invitation for all to see.
The lord squirmed inside the newborn,
As He experienced the suffocation of vain ostentation.

The lord called to all His children,
"My own, stop for a moment to listen to what I say,
For, my voice shall only be a whisper."
Some fell silent, others chattered as was their habit, and yet others did not care.
"My own, if you must glorify me, find the flowers, discard the thorns."
The one that did not care glorified the lord with gold,
The ones that chattered glorified the lord with words, and
The ones that listened in silence glorified the lord with humility.
