Wonder vitamin

Vitamins play an important role in its many different functions it is responsible for, inside the human body. Vitamin C is found in fruits, especially those from the citrus family. You can find this in fruits such as mango, guava, pineapple, papaya an tomatoes and also in fresh vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, green pepper and beans.
Although potatoes and seeds are poor sources of Vitamin C, they are rich during germination. Sprouting pulse and germinating grams are also rich sources of this essential vitamin. This is also known as ascorbic acid and is easily oxidized at 100 degrees Celsius as it is water soluble and heat labile (changeable vitamin). Vitamin C is easily destroyed in cooking and canning process due to the alkalies and copper salts used in this process.

Functioning of formative cells

Think why is this vitamin so important. It is due to its main function as an antioxidant that is responsible for about 300 metabolic functions (chemical process that changes food) in your body. It helps tissue growth an repair; adrenalin gland functions and improves healthy gums. Ascorbic acid is responsible in the process of carbohydrate metabolism the failure of which causes deficiency in the production of insulin. Vitamin C is essential in the proper functioning of formative cells in various tissues of your body. It also plays a role in your healing of wounds, blood clotting and also the maturation of red cells. One of the dreaded disease, scurvy is caused due to deficiency in Vitamin C in one's diet. It was first found in sailors and sea pirates who stayed away from land for a long period of time and deprived of fresh food who has no any access to fresh food.

Erosion of gums and malformation of bones

Lack of Vitamin C causes erosion of gums and frequent bleeding in the mouth, malformation of your bones. Increased brittleness of bones lead to fractures and eruptions in skin, vulnerability to infections. Eating fresh food and vegetables can easily meet the daily requirement of Vitamin C. Doctors suggest regular intake of this vitamin as it is very important when your children and older people are considered. The important point you should know about this vitamin is that it is not produced in your body.
