Nothing going right? Day on the fritz? Well it sounds like you need a little distraction, something to clear your mind and then get going again.

Oh Grrrr..... Hmmmppphhhh...

Ever had one of those days where nothing seems to go to plan? You feel like you would be better off staying in bed. At every turn things seem to get worse and worse.

The truth is that no matter how positive you are as a person you will encounter such days.

It was a good job I did not have my computer turned on as I would have fused the Internet in a pile of dead circuits, chips, and random data, with everything else that happened. I would have been like the man who tosses a stone off the side of the road, thinking only of how someone can trip and fall, just to smash his own glasshouse.

Relax, It can't be THAT Bad!

The truth is that when things go wring they are rarely that bad. We simply perceive things to be at their worst. Sometimes the best thing we can do is step aside, go and do something else for a few minutes; alternatively go and walk down the street and back again before trying again. Perception is normally far worse than reality. Trouble is we are unable to see that at the time things go wrong.

My father had a saying for such a moment "Cheer up," he would say "worse things happen at sea". I remember saying that could never possibly be the case. A a child I would get so wound up over how dumb/inapplicable his statement was that I soon forgot all of my troubles for a little while. Later, when I looked back at the problem it was with a renewed spirit.

My personal "dumb" statement for such a time is "Relax - Surely it cannot be that bad". Does the same trick, makes you step away from that particular problem, and gives you an opportunity to tell me to stop telling people to relax when I am the least relaxed person on the planet.

Renewed Vigour

Truth is that most things we abandon for a little while do have to be completed.

Having walked away for a little while it is time to return and tackle the problem with renewed vigour. Pick it up and look for that new way. Get rid of the extraneous rubbish; cut right to the heart of the problem; know that, understand it; then decide how to resolve it. If you have relaxed you mind, or if you have changed your focus (even for a short time) you will probably now have what is needed to solve the problem and get going again.

Often it is with renewed vigour we see what went wrong in the first place and are able to set that right or to move in an entirely different direction.

Related Thoughts

This series of "Thoughts of the Day" are intended for daily encouragement and inspiration they act in some small way as a guide when things do go wrong, but again they are for the thinking and successful person, just like you, who has a few hurdles to overcome. It is all about using the right stepping stones in order to navigate a path that works for you. If you feel inspired then take a look at some of the other thoughts here:

The point is to take this series as a guide, for just as long as you need it.

I need to move two boxes of filing out the garage, sort through and re-file. Looking for inspiration!
