Tips For Eating Healthier (Food Substitutions can be YUMMY too)

What have you replaced or substituted in your diet? Are you still eating high fat/saturated oils? Are you still frying your food?

Are you ready to make your kitchen healthy?

What have you replaced or substituted in your diet? Are you still eating high fat/saturated oils? Are you still frying your food? How about whole milk...is it still in your refrigerator?

Read my healthy tips and maybe you can do a pantry clean out today. Get rid of the old and bring in the new. Below you will see a section titled: Recognizing your temptation foods.

Are you thinking to yourself... I can't do that...I have kids. Have you ever thought about getting them eating healthy too? It is a wonderful option. Go back and check out my blog from last month.

I betcha you are going to find cans in your pantry or cabinet from 2 years ago, expired. We all do; don't be embarrassed. Clean out the fridge too while you are at it.

I have a great alternative to frying and it tastes almost just as good...ALMOST... to be discussed another day!!

Recognizing your temptation foods

What is in your home or place of work that you know shouldn’t be because it’s tooooooo tempting? Are you sabotaging yourself? Can you find substitutes that have the same attributes as your favorites do? YES!!

I decided to figure out why or what about my favorite foods entices me and and makes me want to indulge in them?

My comfort foods and reasons why I enjoy them so much.

Ice cream - YUM - Stewart’s Adirondack Bear Paw or Rocky Road = Variety, Taste, Texture

Cookies – Oooey gooey chocolate chips and nuts = Variety, Taste, Texture

Chocolate covered anything - especially strawberries and pretzels – On the strawberries - the chocolate cracking as you’re eating it = Texture and just YUMMY = Taste

Cadbury Mini Eggs – I LOVE CADBURY MINI EGGS – Big Weakness - Smooth yet chocolate coating cracks in your mouth = Texture, Taste

Red Hots – Yes Red Hots believe it or not… above and beyond, it’s the CRUNCH = Texture, Quantity, Taste

Chips and Dip - Texture, Quantity, Taste

Tomato /Ketchup – Comfort Food

Spare Ribs – Comfort Food

Mashed Potatoes – Comfort Food

Pasta - Comfort Food

My healthier foods and the reasons I enjoy them so much.

Find a healthy substitute.

Turkey Burgers - Taste (Replaces many foods)

Apple (in many pieces) - Texture, Taste, Quantity (Replaces sweets such as Red Hots)

Weight Watchers Chocolate Fudge Bar = Texture, Taste (Replaces Ice Cream)

Popcorn – Crunch = Texture, Quantity, Taste (Replaces Red Hots and Chips)

Granola with fruits and nuts (1/3 cup) = Crunch = Texture, Variety, Taste (Replaces sweets)

Do you see the similarities? Although the foods and snacks are totally different (TOTALLY...Did I say totally?) I enjoy them for the same reasons. Find foods that substitute your favorites and add them into your healthy eating plan. The more we learn to replace the high saturated fat and sugary foods the better.

Eating Healthy = Good Health

See if you can find certain comfort foods or textures to substitute. You might find you enjoy them just as much and you'll be healthier in the long run.
