Trick your mind into Dieting

Our subconscious Stone Age instincts are to overeat, and not just to overeat, but to do so on exactly the wrong stuff: namely sugar and fat. Our modern environment is about food and these two factors together means that we begin to gorge. Our brains basically tell our bodies to bulk up to prepare for the days of famine ahead. But nowadays there is no such famine and so we end up getting fat.

But it appears that with a little brain training, you may just be able to eat less.
Doesn’t worry, that doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself to hours of mental torture as you deprive yourself of your favourite food. In fact, by changing just 10 things about the way you eat, you can make an enormous difference to whether or not you can lose weight.

Double the time you take to eat

Think back 290 years. How long did you take to eat your evening meal? Researchers say the answer is just over half an hour. And now? It appears its just 14 measly minutes. Does that reduction mean anything? Surely we are eating the same amount but in less time? Believe it or not, no, we are not. A Japanese study of 4700 volunteers showed that fast eaters weigh, on average, a whopping 7 kilos more than slow chewers. Other studies show that simply pausing between bites means that you eat less.

Don’t eat in large groups

Eating in large groups seems to activate a primitive feasting response- your survival instincts tell you to gobble up the food before anyone else gets to it! The research show that not only do people tend to eat more quickly, but for longer.

Only have two types of food on your plate

Sounds weird doesn’t it? But it’s actually to so with the fact that human being like variety. Studies have shown that our appetites are partially controlled by something called sensory- specific satiety. The more choice we have, the more we are likely to overeat. A mixture in colours and shapes also influences us to eat more.

Eat with your family

Even though family meals aren’t as common today as they used to be, it appears that the social aspect of it helps to control our weight. Study shows that eating as a family may make us less likely to comfort eat.
