So many common diseases nowadays that we thought we are well aware of but on the contrary, we are not. Here are some tiny bits and pieces about some of them that might be of help for us in dealing with these health nuisance.

Colds: You can't catch the same type twice

Good news: You can't catch the same cold twice brought about by a certain type of virus because you develop certain antibodies for this particular virus once you were infected. The Bad news: There are approximately 200 types of viruses that cause common colds. In other words, you can possibly be infected by colds for a maximum of 200 times in your lifetime.

Colds also are not brought about by bacteria. So please stop taking antibiotics to treat colds.

You don't get ulcers from what you eat. You get them from what's eating you.

Whether the Austrian born American Novelist Vicky Baum quoted this in jest or she had some research done, we'll never know. But she was absolutely correct because a certain bacteria called Helicobacter pylori has been discovered in 1982 to be present in patients with duodenal and stomach cancers and ulcers.

Diarrhea is not a disease

Diarrhea can be a symptom that signals us that we had taken something toxic inside our digestive system. And this can also be our body's defense against these harmful toxins by flushing them out of our bodies through bowel movement. So the next time you are having loose stools, think twice before taking your loperamides as you may hamper the toxins from being flushed out. Just make sure to continuously eat normal meals and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Headache? Take paracetamol with coffee.

It is said the caffeine has properties that works well in the effectivity of paracetamol as a painkiller. Currently there are some over the counter drugs that came out in the market that have the combination of caffeine and paracetamol. Just always be mindful of any side effects since overdose of paracetamol can have serious effect in our liver and kidneys.

At first sign of a suspected heart attack: cough hard

Sources say that if you are having a heart attack, try to cough so hard as if you are trying to expel phlegm from deep inside your throat. This may not necessarily directly save your life but this can somehow help regulate the heartbeat as this equate to applying CPR to your own self. Therefore this prolongs your chances in getting in the hospital conscious. Although there are not enough scientific proof to confirm this report, I believe there is no harm in trying this procedure to your advantage most specially if you are alone and emergency responses are not immediately available.
