Acne is common headache of all beauty lovers. This is a common skin problem in all places of the world. Apart from allopathical usage for acne, natural items can be used for treating this problem. Among all natural treatments, use of turmeric is found to be most effective to fight out acne.

Turmeric for Treating ACNE

Turmeric is one of nature's most powerful healers. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. Tumeric has been used for over 2500 years in India, where it was most likely first used as a dye.

The medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer's disease. We will discuss only it's effectiveness on acne.

There are generally four types of acne — blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts — develop when pores in our skin become clogged. The culprit is sebum , an oil in our skin. Our bodies make more sebum when our hormones surge. This is why teens get acne more. For the same reason women often breakout before their periods. Since hormones fluctuate in the years leading up to menopause, most of the women in their 40s and 50s get acne.

Use or Turmeric against Acne

One very useful spice in treating acne is turmeric. It can be taken both internally and applied directly on affected skin, it helps a lot due to its antiseptic properties. If taken internally, particularly with warm milk, it helps our immune system and is generally used in India to get rid of colds, and applied as warm poultice in treating inflamed skin due to sprain and strain. In the treatment of acne, turmeric is useful in drying out acne and removing blemishes.

To use it on acne, make a creamy paste of turmeric with coconut oil (or sesame oil). You can either warm this paste in a tea spoon and then apply, or dab it just like that on the acne. Cover the acne and surrounding area completely with this paste. Use this paste at least 20 minutes before going to bed so that it dries before your face contacts the pillow.

Keep the paste on face overnight and you would be surprised to find in the morning the difference in the size of acne. Even acne produced by hormonal changes in women responds to this turmeric treatment greatly. It takes hardly 2-3 days for acne to vanish completely. This is the greatest advantage of turmeric treatment. It not only dries out the acne, it stops any blemish formation or making skin flaky or dry.

Instead of using chemicals for exfoliation as face scrubs, we can use gram flour with a pinch of turmeric and a few drops of coconut oil to make a face mask which not only removes dead cells, but controls bacteria and smoothes skin also.

The daily use of turmeric, either in medicinal form or as a regular spice in our foods, can really help us to have a better immuned health.
