We all aspire to live beyond a long life even we acknowledge the reality that we are mortal, that someday our bodies will return to earth. And depending on your religious belief – Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, Buddhist or Zoroastrian, something will happen in our essence after our consciousness cease to exist. Fortunately, there are ways to extend life, even in finite years. Some are based on proven studies, some are needing further scientific experiments and some have been proven.

Ways to live a long life even beyond your 100th birthday

Here are the ways to live a longer life and reach the age of 100 or even beyond, who knows? Technology and the forthcoming decades may add more notches in our mortal life.
1. Eat more leafy vegetables, fruits and less on red meat – Yes, leafy vegetables and fruits make our nutritional requirements closer to nature. This has been stated on countless nutritional literatures and studies, but still, until now, overlooked or shunned by meat eaters. On the other hand, red meat such as beef and pork and much more those processed ones, may contain carcinogenic chemicals that can increase chances of cellular mutation, and therefore cancer. Leafy vegetables such as spinach, basil, parsley, watercress, broccoli and cauliflower all contain fiber (dietary fiber), Vitamin C & K, Iron and anti-cancer phytochemicals. Fruits, likewise, have phytochemicals, beta carotene, Vitamin A and potassium.

2. Consume significant amounts of blueberries and Red wine – Purple fruits such as blueberries and grapes and its derivative- red wine contains the anti cancer – polygons and non-polyphenols. Among the polyphenols is Resveratrol. Across the nutritional books, magazines and internet, authors mentioned Resveratrol to health promoting and life extending organic chemical. Although, there is anecdotal evidence whether Resveratrol can prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancer, studies confirmed the chemical to reduce risk of heart disease, diabetes and protect skin and fight oxidants.

3. Study a second language – While this sounds to be ridiculous, this fact is based from the confirmed reports that making brain or thinking activity busy helps reduce risk of Alzheimer disease, which can shorten lifespan. If you know the English language, why not try Spanish or French? There are hundreds and countless resources in both languages which can help you start learning vocabulary, grammar and conversation. Grab a Spanish or French book and start learning Buenos dias, Amigo, or Bonjour Madamemoiselle.

4. Avoid or reduce eating of charred or grilled foods. Burned and grilled foods have high concentrations of carcinogens namely heterocyclic amines (HCAs), benzopyrene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Those meats with dripping fat onto charcoals and charred after high heating can develop those carcinogens.

5. Balance sleep – If you oversleep it’s bad, if you undersleep it’s also bad, the key is moderation. 6 to 8 hours is good for sound body. When you work like an owl shift 11 pm to 8 am, then you can compensate it by sleeping 6 to 8 hours in daylight.

6. Move and get exercise– When you work in an office, you have a sedentary life, which means less exercise and less opportunity to move your joints, ankles, feet and your whole body. Indulging in exercise, doesn’t mean you have to be an athlete or buy those fancy thread mills, buy expensive vitamins and steroids and gym subscriptions. Buy those inexpensive sets of dumbbells – chrome or rubberized metal and starting sculpting your biceps and abs. Wherever your destination is within your reach, try walking instead of using transport.
