A series on eczema. What is it? How does it start? Can it be cured? Who gets it? How it affects it's sufferers.

Introduction

When most people think of eczema, the first thing that comes to mind is a dry, flaky-skinned child. While it’s true that some types of eczema are most common amongst children, this condition can affect anyone of any age be they a man, a woman, a child or even a teenager. It can also develop at any stage of life.
Eczema is a condition that is not life-threatening but it can be extremely disruptive in the lives of the people it affects. Eczema can also cause severe depression and misery for its sufferers. This is a chronic condition, meaning that it will be around for a long time. As with any chronic disease, eczema can also be affected by both lifestyle and diet. By using the appropriate medical treatment and making changes to the lifestyle and diet and taking steps to look after your skin and keep it healthy, eczema can be controlled.
There is no cure for eczema but it can be managed.
As a person who has been living with eczema (and psoriasis) and struggling to control this condition for the last fourteen years, I have a first-hand understanding of both the physical and emotional sides of eczema.
