When All Doors Shut, Look out for a Window

A change in the way we perceive life and towards positivism will bring a sea change in our lives. Let us not forget that we are at the apex of all species; thus masters of not only our destiny but also of our fellow travelers.

Life is Worth Living

Life can turn against us in a jiffy but breakthroughs take time, perseverance and even providence. Building is a long-term process but destruction comes easy. We get fulfillment only through creation. A thing of beauty is a joy forever, but to create we need the right environment. Life proves tough most times even for the rich as they worry about becoming poor! The poor can dream of becoming rich all their lives and how they will live it up after that, or how the rich should live their lives sharing it all! Beating heavy odds at a young age gives us the wherewithal to survive rough times in future. When all doors seem to shut at the same time, a tiny window is enough for us to breathe the fresh air and survive. Our travails are soon forgotten and life becomes hunky dory again. And we live on enriched by the debilitating experiences, especially how we overcame them.

Points to Ponder

Expect the unexpected: I remember seeing this road sign often to remind us of the dangers never far away. This is true for life as well. Those who are aware of the dangers ever present and the risks they take are better prepared in life. For them, setbacks only strengthen their resolve to realize their dreams. It is part and parcel of their journey and the obstacles are just a challenge to be overcome. They leave no stone upturned to find ways and means to find solutions. Such people are everywhere, studious and industrious, showing others the way not to give up easily.

There is only one way - Forward: Life has to go on. We can learn from other species how they fight till their last moments to live. They never commit suicide, a choice we have as we are more evolved, but fight on just to live. Being at the apex of creation, why should we prove the weakling? We have better support and back-up systems to shore up our will to live. At every level, we can find meaning – in fact, the camaraderie is more when we are poor and we have less to lose! Then we have time for those that really matter!

Countries more united after a crisis: China is a case in point – after its release from the clutches of Maoism they want to get ahead at breakneck speed. They are in a hurry to make up for lost years of self-defeating experiments that killed millions. The pain and the lessons have left indelible marks to keep them running- never again! The doors were shut during those years to the rest of the world and a window opened and later the many doors to give them full flight!

Attitude decides Altitude

In personal lives too, we tend to take much for granted. Only those who were locked in, pinned down, will know what freedom means. Most are luckier than we think. We enjoy the freedom to try out new ways of living but we get imprisoned by inertia of body and mind. The opportunities are ever present; only, we fail to notice and seize them. If we are content with our present lot, then it is okay but many feel life is not fair to them. They spread their unhappiness to near and dear ones causing a pall of gloom that proves contagious. In fact, the doors are open but we fail to realize the fact and think we have no escape latch. Those who are imprisoned will try to find ways to escape but those who are free tend to feel that they are held down. That is inertia taking over.

Our position in life boils down to our attitude that ultimately decides our altitude. From individuals, to societies, to countries there is a feeling to look others as enemies, out to harm each other, and even own shadows look evil! When we have internal issues, we try to take out on others spreading enmity. When we realize the ultimate truth that we are in the same boat, wherever and whatever our positions in life, then the seed of understanding is sown. No one can thrive in isolation. We have only one planet – we can soar or sink as one. History is replete with episodes where wars were fought needlessly and we ended up worse than before. But we tend to ignore these lessons and repeat the mistakes ad nauseum.

Doors and Windows Remain Open

The windows remain more open than ever. Our forefathers had to force open doors that were really shut. They brought us thus far, generation after generation. We have easier solutions than we think. Science and technology find solutions to keep us engaged but we need time to ponder about matters that can keep us united and even to stay alive. Progress means construction, creativity, but they also bring destruction and hopelessness to those left behind. We can steady our ride by:

Unity: We need to think as one. Our beliefs can be different – it is too late in the day and it is a matter of freedom of thought and expression. But the challenges are universal, mainly, to harness and share the resources equitably. And to avoid wars that can destroy this lovely shared home of ours, nurtured by an unseen force, continuously reinvented to suit our needs and even greed.

Embrace diversity: The unbelievable diversity to keep us enthralled, for us to find greater meaning in our activities every moment of our lives. Why take it as lack of homogeneity? Let us enjoy the richness and variety. Everything has a meaning to its existence and some prove beyond our understanding. Our own thoughts are so rich and diverse that we even fail to analyse and remember them even.

Love and Trust: When we lack of love and trust, our world comes apart. We feel that others are out to get us but times have changed for the better. There is enough for all to live in peace and find meaning. From China to Middle East to Africa, all want to be live in peace; only few are beyond reason but they stand exposed faster than before.

Carpe Diem – Seize the Day

The way we approach our lives give a feeling that the doors remain closed, that we face heavy odds but the reality is not only the doors are open but even the many windows. We need to open our minds to see the world in a different light. Our perception of life has to change for the positive for us to really get ahead than remain mired in one controversy after another – almost all of our making. No outside forces threaten our existence and well-being. We are still the masters to decide our destiny. Let us walk through the many doors that are open and also see the beauty of creation through the windows. Life is much more worth living than we give credit for!

Thank you Rama-ji. I have been blessed to share and also benefit from wisdom that most share wholeheartedly. I see some with great ability, talent, but taking routes that bring only a dead-end much before their time. These apply to societies and countries too that needlessly sink in negativity - a zero sum game - where the other has to lose for them to gain. A big mistake we pay increasingly for not learning the basic lessons. It is time we told our leaders - enough of histrionics and more of real leadership. Namaste - siva

siva, as always, you are the adept teacher and master instructor.

Many people, however, do not take the way - Forward, but hinder their growth, their upward progress by choosing the downward road.

Those who feel tied down, are tied down by this economic/societal system and its co-partner, religion.

Thank you siva.

Thank you Uthrania. I just like to share my thoughts and hope they benefit few. It is so gratifying when I get responses that encourage me further. It proves a challenge too! But they all make my day - to see my posts in print and also the many comments. They reinforce my belief that there is only one Creator but we tend to see each other differently, sadly, few in a negative way. This is bad karma as we repudiate the Creator himself by such thoughts. I remember my friend telling me that having an identical twin creates issues too like when few misunderstand. They find fault with him that he acknowledges them when he pleases. Then he has to explain that other times they might have seen his twin brother! So it makes sense to look and even think differently! siva

siva, my dear friend, I forgot to mention that when we all believe differently upon many topics then we become a fragmented mind.

This is the problem with democracy. Many minds all believing something different until there becomes total and complete chaos.

When all parts of the body work in coordination one with the other then there is no fragmentation.

The mind within the body is of one thought - one mind - one purpose, and because of this there also can be no fragmentation and that oneness becomes unbeatable in its attraction and purpose.

Agreed dear Uthrania. We should have an understanding - thus far and no further. Democracy without the rule of law is akin to anarchy! That happens in countries like India - the largest, going by sheer numbers - and even the mighty USA. When elections are over, the system should allow the agenda based on which the elections were decided to be carried forward. Sadly, even before the dust settles down, battle lines are drawn for the next hustings! That makes for a continuous show of theatrics to distract from the real focus and the poorest suffer while the powerful pull the strings whoever is in power!

We can fault China's system. But let s ponder too; are they not running away with the winnings and those around them, one by one, fall in line to the mighty dragon spitting fire? The fear is, US might withdraw into a shell and allow many to be consumed by the dragon. Now Japan is feeling the heat already! We look up to USA and western countries to make democracy work. Despite the freedom we all enjoy the fruits still taste a bit bitter as we wait for democracy to ripen, but patience has its limits too! siva

Of course life is worth living or we can make it so. While we all would have gone through rough patches in life, it would be difficult to imagine life of the less fortunate, who might fail to find doors and windows open. A thought here - let's try to push open doors and windows for such people. Let's contribute towards betterment of these lives. Sometimes as little as a smile and kind words open windows of sunshine for people. And we can always bask in the warmth of that good deed.
Thanks for the beautiful share, Mr. Siva. Regards

Thanks Vartika for such kind thoughts. Thankfully, we have many who do such - I am sure you do and also me - but even for the fortunate few, doors do slam on us shut, and the windows too remain closed. Then we force a small opening and soon enough we forget such a state even existed! That is life. Even for a country like China, everything closed on them for decades of Mao rule and when set free they are still running and in full flight. But in many democratic countries we do not know what to make of our hard earned freedom. Few manage to pull the strings all the time. The majority has to assert to take control and we all have to do our bit more than just voting for the best candidates. Then if need be, when pushed to the wall, enter the ring ourselves to take the bull by the horns, phew! siva

You are right. When we try hard for something, there is no time left for brooding...inch by inch we make a difference and suddenly the big door opens. It is the attitude which makes or breaks. Hence the importance of right attitude and positivity can never be over-emphasized. Thanks

Thanks again Vartika. Change what we can and accept those we can't - is a nice way to find peace in our lives. But we keep trying to change what is obviously not right so that we can succeed over the years, generations even. The spark of creation, mind, soul, spirit prompts us what to do and then we have to gear ourselves to do that - siva

Hello my friend , I have come back for a visit to your post , and all your many comments .Most interesting . That is what I like about you Siva , you allow others to differ with you without your taking offense at the differences. That is healthy debate . Truth can only be found only if it is revealed . It is never secretive nor is it negative .It leads to life and that more abundantly . My truth comes from the relationship I have with the One who calls Himself the Truth. Nothing could be more positive or life giving and liberating than that , and He tells us that those who know the truth, it is that truth that will set them free. There will always be division , and even divisiveness in this world , and we would have to be clones or puppets to agree on exactly the same thing all the time . We are neither of those , I am glad to say , and someone would be manipulating us and pulling the strings if that were the case. I am also so glad that the Lord promises to open doors that no man can shut, and shut doors that no man can open . That is so reassuring and so positive as well..May the doors that open for you Siva , always lead to all that is good and positive and full of truth , and may you have the wisdom to know the voice that leads you in the right direction .
Faithfully.
Bless you
Stella

Thank you Stella for your in depth comment. I really appreciate your deep faith that gives you much confidence, peace and bliss. For me, I try to understand life - how it is treating me and others. Some suffer for no fault of theirs and justice eludes them. But we know who is backing them as they still carry on stoically despite their travails. I would want due justice in the end as our system remains flawed. I also try to understand the various beliefs to appreciate life better. I do believe something beyond our present state - to make everything clear. And our soul will continue its journey till it is finally merged with the One. Every action of ours will count in the end - siva

Forgive me if I seem to be backtracking here Siva, but when I think of a door closing and a window opening,I tend to think of it as a time for breathing fresh air rather than a way of entrance or exit . More often than not for me , I have had to wait for another door to open , through which I can then walk. Sometimes God sees us going towards doors that He doesn't want us to go through , and He bars them shut , and then He directs us to the ones He would have us walk through . With the help of a friend I felt led to walk through this door , and as long as this is where I am meant to be , I am happy to continue . Such is life . Not all barred doors are a negative in our lives. We just have to have the wisdom to know what is the best for us and others.
God bless you Siva.

Thanks again Stella for your inputs. We are just human, and emotional. We get hit between our eyes and do not know what hit us. Everything then looks dark, even like near death experience at times. But we wait for an opening to get going again. I do agree that the doors we knock might not be meant for us and remain shut, but what lets us in will prove more to our benefit. This has happened to me few times and some take them as predestined. I too take comfort in - change what I can for the better and accept what I cannot. Life is too precious to live in regret - siva
