Child abuse is one of the most hideous of crimes, it extends to all walks of society. Children are vulnerable in the home and in the society as well. There could never be too many articles written about child abuse.

Common misconceptions about reporting child abuse

Common misconceptions that both Americans, Canadians, and Montrealers have about reporting child abuse:

One of the reasons child abuse is left unreported is that people have heard stories about horrifying consequences when you report child abuse. These stories have no basis in truth.

Here are a few examples of what people are afraid of.

The caller must reveal his or her identity - actually it is done anonymously
The abuser is entitled to know who made the report - again no!
Every child will be removed from the home if an abuse report has been filed - again no, an investigation will be done to determine if abuse has occurred and then a decision will be made if the child needs to be removed from the home or not.

Thousand of kids are abused everyday in the USA and Canada

Thousands of kids are abused every day in the USA, and yet many abuse cases that could be reported are not. Many child abuse cases occur right here in Montreal.

Kids and teens are neglected or abused by their families, teachers, counselors, friends; mostly people they know.

In Montreal, we have had so many cases of child abuse at the hands of teachers in various schools. Some of these cases have reached the attention of the news reporting system in the United States.

Richard Doucet, a 37-year-old former teacher was a former Montreal Selwyn House teacher, who is facing 125 years in a U.S. prison for child porn charges.

More allegations have recently come up for kids who were sexually abused in a Montreal school for the auditory impaired..

Humans are sophisticated, they even abuse their own child. What is the point of having a child if you just abuse them right? Psychological problems and Drugs I guess.

of course in some ways it goes both ways too.

Some children give their parents hell.

There are also gangs of ten to thirteen year olds here running rampant and terrorising neighbourhoods here, thieving and destroying all in their path.

But I do take your point the child is more vulnerable to this.

Perhaps more parent/child education or something else is required.

they have been giving parenting courses and other kinds of education for years, the people who need it never go unless they are ordered by the court

These are universal problems.

One cause of continuing child abuse is that children from abusive homes grow up and have children of their own. As parents, the former victims have a mindset that this way of life is the norm - plus there are some that take the line that they might "get their own back" by behaving in ways that are similar to those they had to endure.

On the other hand, there are others who are determined to do precisely the opposite, so one cannot be dogmatic on this point.

As a parent, I use correction as a medium of disciplining and this does mean a once in a way right to spank.
Although many abhor that calling it child abuse, many see the avoidance of discipline causes catastrophe in those very children at a later stage.

Well meaning parents don't hit their children till they are black and bruised as this become a momentum to increase the next crime of Domestic Violence as the child thinks it is okay to officiate violence/vindictiveness to get their ways in life by way of bullying.

While I have been a victim of child abuse and would rather not take about it in detail, the psychological trauma is bewildering when they are unheard when it is happening.

As growing kids, many children strip other kids and parade them naked, teenagers try to use children to advance their sexuality and even adults rape babies and children etc. all this comes under child abuse.

While some well-meaning parents are made to pay the price of being informing by way of pictures or talking about it, it can be classified as child abuse by onlookers or keepers of law as they don't understand the methodology of teaching. No comments on this one but I know that many parents, myself included have had our little ones walk in naked into the shower just to be with their parents and when you are single parent with a crying three year old in a shower, you cannot say no but at times law could see it as child abuse too.

None the less, children are delicate and I left my husband because he used to hit my child until he urinated in fear. He is on the mend now, but I am blessed.

Some mother throw their children out after birth just because they have 'other' priorities wherein their love life takes precedence over their children resulting in neglect and that is also child abuse.
