Healing our wounds is vital not only to the individual but to those we love, and to the whole world because the wound of one person is a wound that manifests itself in all of us and the whole. The repercussions of this are greater than any one of us and are quite difficult to imagine in our ego-centered world.

Why Healing is Vital part 1

Healing our wounds is vital not only to the individual but to those we love, and to the whole world because the wound of one person is a wound that manifests itself in all of us and the whole. The repercussions of this are greater than any one of us and are quite difficult to imagine in our ego-centered world.

When I speak of wounds, I am speaking of wounds to the spirit, soul or psyche—non physical. Physical wounds often are manifestations of emotional wounds, such as cancer, heart disease, etc. Some may argue that heart disease is caused by other factors like diet, smoking, etc. but what causes poor diet and the desire to smoke. If we smoke and eat poorly because we are stressed then we have three contributing factors to heart disease. The question needs to be asked, why are we stressed? The answers to this question will take us to the root cause, which is some kind of wound within ourselves that needs to be healed. The path to the root can be difficult to trace and may be complicated.

A person under stress may be under stress by seemingly a number of factors. Her husband may be distant and unavailable. Her children may be aloof. Her life may seem ordinary and without meaning. All these things can cause stress but it is what causes these things that are really responsible for the stress.

She may have grown up in a family where her parents were emotionally unavailable. To cope as a child she buried the wound in her subconscious waiting for a day when it would be safe to heal the wound. Subconsciously she is drawn to relationships where the other person is emotionally unavailable so that she can bring the wound out of her subconscious and heal it. Each time she fails to heal the wound after entering into yet another unhealthy relationship the wound gets deeper. This can go until she is thrown to the bottom of darkness…we want to heal, so our unconscious mind will take us to the depths of despair if need be. She may even enter a relationship that is healthy at the beginning but then she may have unconscious reactions that cause the people in her life to seek protection by becoming unavailable emotionally. Keeping in mind that the people drawn to her are also drawn for healing purposes—their shutting down emotionally is related to their wounds and their needs for healing.

It is an eccentric, complicated, chaotically choreographed dance we do to heal our wounds. We do it not only for ourselves but for the whole because we know on a fundamental level that when we heal ourselves we heal a part of the whole, a part of the world that needs healing. Healing is multi-tiered from individual to family, to community, to society, to world, to universe and we will continue to strive to heal our wounds, many times creating deeper wounds to heal in the process, until we embrace our true nature, our true natural state of being—an existence of love and inner peace. This can be seen on every level of the healing tiers. Just read the newspapers, listen to the songs, review history, but most of all listen to your Heart.

Live with Intention. Make Choices to empower yourself. Breakdown triggers and patterns and heal. Practice empathy with yourself and others. Heal yourself and heal the world. This is the beginning of Inner Peace…
