You should never share your makeup because infections can spread easily through makeup. Never share your makeup even with your close friends and family members to avoid infections transmitted through makeup. Taking proper care of your makeup products helps to prevent infections.

Reasons why you should never share your makeup?

You should never share your makeup because infections can spread easily through makeup. Diseases such as pink eye, the flu and herpes can be transmitted through makeup products.

If you are sharing a lipstick or lip gloss with your friend who has herpes labialis and does not realize it, then you will most probably get the infection from your friend when you use the same lipstick or lip gloss that your friend has used.

Herpes labialis is an infection caused by a Herpes Simplex, a virus that spreads easily and causes painful cold sores on the mouth.

Conjunctivitis or pink eye is easily transmitted through eye makeup. If you share your makeup with a friend who is in the initial stages of getting conjunctivitis, then there is a high chance that you may get the eye infection from your friend.

Do's and Dont's for Makeup Products

Do not share your makeup even with your close friends and family members to avoid infections transmitted through makeup.

Do not add water to your makeup, adding water can initiate the growth of germs in the makeup product.

Do not use the testers at the mall directly on your skin. When you are using testers at the mall, request the staff to give you a disposable applicator to be on the safe side.

Do store makeup products at room temperature, any makeup stored at temperatures above 85 degrees Celcius is not safe to use.

Do close the lid of the makeup product that you are using immediately after use to prevent infection.

Do not use expired makeup products. Change all your makeup products once every six months to prevent any infection. Products like face powders, mineral based powders or any powder based makeup will last up to two years.

Do wash your face and hands before applying makeup.

Do wash your makeup brushes regularly and keep them clean. Remember not to share your makeup brushes.

Wipe off all the makeup from your face before you go to sleep.

I don't wear make-up, either (like Fern and some others), but I did when I was younger and shared with my mother and sisters. That worked out OK, because we were all family, but your advice is sound and practical -- especially for many young teens who may not know better at school.
