Wigs are no longer a secret accessory, they are the in thing. If you've got one, flaunt it. Wear it proudly.

An Instant Hair Do

Need a new hairdo or have an event coming up and don’t have time to color, trim and style your hair. Then do what the fashion models do, grab a wig.

For years now, ladies wigs have been popularly used in the fashion scene and over time these wigs have just gotten better and better.

Now days, it is hard to tell a wig from someone’s natural hair and that is what makes them so ideal to wear.

Practical

A few years ago my youngest daughter was getting married. We had the grandchildren all coming and so much to do. The last thing that I wanted to do was to go get my hair done. So I decided to wear a wig. No one was the wiser.

Uncomfortable with the idea of wearing a wig, you don’t need to be. Wigs are comfortable, realistic looking and easy to take care of. The most popular brands are Bobbi Boss, Godiva’s Secret Wigs, Noriko and Raquel Welch. And, there are many reasons to wear a wig. For women who have thinning hair or who have a medical illness, wigs are often a lifesaver.

Wigs are not just limited to women, men can wear them too.

Fun

For those who want to experiment with a different hair color and/or style, wigs are perfect. You can be a blond one day and a brunette the next. Hair has never been so much fun.

I am a strong believer in the fact that hair doesn’t make a man or woman, but I do believe that confidence does. So whether you are bald, have a head full of hair or thinning hair, if a wig can make you feel more confident than I say - get one!

Easy

If you thought wigs were difficult to maintain, think again, the new synthetic wigs have memory fibers. Just shampoo and let dry, they spring back into their original style almost instantly.

Here's how to wash your wig safely :

1. You'll need to purchase a synthetic wig shampoo designed specifically for synthetic wigs. Never use a regular shampoo on a synthetic wig.

2. Brush your wig lightly with a wire brush before washing. Never brush your wig when it is wet.

3. Add a teaspoonful of wig shampoo to a bowl of cool water. Never use hot water on a synthetic wig. Gently massage in the shampoo

4. Remove your wig from the basin and gently squeeze out the excess water. Never twist or wring your wag to avoid damage.

5. Gently blot your wig dry with a towel or hang it over the shower nozzle until dry.

6. Never style a wet wig!

7. You can periodically condition your wig by applying a gentle hair conditioner or wig conditioner periodically after washing and before the final rinse.

Economically

As far as prices, they aren’t bad. An average synthetic wig can cost between $50 on up to $400 and can last for up to a year. Yet, a color, cut and style at your local hair salon can cost just as much, but you’ll have to get it re-cut and colored every few months.

Popular

Some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood wear wigs.

A few that come to mind are Cher, Tina Turner, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson and her sister Ashley, Beyonce, Raquel Welch, Lady Gaga, Diana Ross, Tyra Banks and Jennifer Lopez.

Women are not the only celebrities with wigs. Many of your favorite male actors and performers have also taken to the habit of wearing hairpieces. Robert de Niro, Little Richard, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, Mathew McCaughnehey, Quentin Tarantino, Carrot Top, William Shatner and Andre Agassi.

If they can wear one, why can’t you? Toss out all your old stereotypes about wigs, they are in and a ton of fun.

Many wigs are made of human hair and they have to be made to specification to your scalp and cannot be taken back because of customization to the head.
None the less, learnt some of the tricks whilst working with a friend in her wig business. We are no longer friends now but the knowledge remains. Good information.

One of my friends has been wearing wigs for the last decade or so and loves them. I haven't found wigs that look close enough to my hair under $100, or I would be wearing them! I am not so adventurous, but would love being able to crop my hair SHORT and still sport long styles -- esp in summer!!

I would LOVE to get one but can't get over the "artificiality" of it! This is the same person who put on fake eyebrows today -- so what IS my problem? Glad I found you here, Teila. I'm must be the last of the other gang to move over!
