The feminist movement has done much to improve the lives of women. Women march to improve the quality of life for women around the world.

Introduction

Montreal women are interested in equality and a sense of fair play everywhere in the world. There are so many kinds of discrimination in such areas as poverty, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation and so on. One wonders how we manage to survive as a species. With discrimination comes inequality, and sometimes even death.

The women's movement has always been then champion of equality and a sense of fair play among the sexes, but it is much more than that. It is a global community of sympathizers and activists who champion causes all over the world. Causes that sometimes never see the light of day.

March for sex trade workers

One of the many feminist coalitions is the Women's March of Women (WMW) which had be hosted the, “Women on the March Until we are Free” demonstration in Sud Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, on October 17, 2010.

This feminist organization's goal was to rid the world of poverty and violence against women. The March has been in existence for 10 years. There are over 5,000 groups and the majority of the countries in the world (164) participating in its act ivies. The March is responsible for producing the Women's Global Charter for Humanity.

The aim of the feminist movement is to have all voices heard, this includes rights of women sex trade workers, and women who wish to wear a niqab. These groups may not hold popular views in society at large; however they are views that must also be heard. The Canadian group of Feminists called FIRST, advocate for the rights of sex trade workers and the decriminalization of the sex trade industry.

Different feminine voices coming together

Montreal based Concertation des luttes contre l'expoitation sexual takes the opposite approach; wanting to eradicate sexual exploitation of women. Both groups come together in the feminist movement because they share a common denominator; making women's lives easier.

Helene Pedneault, a Montreal feminist writer, explains that through the March, we have for the first time in history a forum where dissenting voices come together to work for the good of womankind.

COCO is a Montreal community organization which works with other community organizations to get the voices heard, to help women and children, to stamp out poverty, right wrongs and effectuate positive community change throughout Montreal and Quebec.

COCO is endorsing The Woman's March. For more information about their services visit their website.
