the day I stopped lying about my age

There is always a period in any woman's life when she tries to hide the truth about her age and I am not exempt from this reality.

fear of growing old

I think growing old is one of the hardest realities to accept. A period of denial would most likely ensue in women who are "crossing the calendar" so to speak or those turning 30. This seems to be the period when some women feel and think that they are losing their youth and that's when the lying starts. When I turned 30 and people would ask me about my age, I used to say 25. Then as I grew older, I'd say I was 28, then 30 when I was actually 38.

40 as the new 30

Upon reaching 40 the fear of aging mounts and the lying becomes worst. I'd take as many as 10 years off my age. Then I started going to the gym everyday, exercising like crazy. When I learned to use the computer in my mid 40's I was amazed to learn from forum members how openly and proudly they announce their ages--60, 62, 65 etc.

acceptance

Slowly I began to accept the fact that there is nothing wrong with being old. Everybody is heading towards this direction anyway and no matter what I do, the truth will finally show in many ways. So I started saying and telling people my real age and I get reactions like, "Really? You don't look it. You look like you're only 30." Well, that's flattering, isn't it? So now I can say that I am now in touch with who I really am, not afraid to tell the world the number of times I have celebrated my birthdays. Age is really just a number anyway.

My writing will be about life in general. I'd been a teacher before I shifted to being a self-employed person. I happen to have several interests, like I'm a dog-lover, I love to dance and sing too.

Very true, rarity, there's nothing wrong with being old as long as you don't look old..lol

Thanks, kabz. Take care.

Good for you. I started being proud of my age at 50 and experienced the same disbelief at how old I was. Now I'm 63 and I really have to stop and think how old I am. You get more compliments by telling the truth :-)
